Slow Food Dublin Announce New Food Festival, ‘Slow in the City’

Slow Food Dublin has today (Tuesday 12th September) announced that they will be hosting their inaugural annual slow food festival, Slow in the City which will take place in association with Bodytonic on Sunday, October 29th from 11am-6pm in Sophia’s of Dublin 8.

Comprising of talks, panel discussions, demos, tastings, workshops and a small market with Dublin producers, Slow in the City will highlight the flourishing Dublin food scene collaborating with local producers, community gardens, restaurants and chefs all of who live and breathe the Slow Food ethos every day in their work.

Circling the theme of ‘The Health of Irish Soil’ this one day event aims to promote the values of good, clean and fair food in Dublin and further afield by growing membership, fostering community, educating the public and celebrating the pleasure of eating.

An array of participants are already confirmed including:

Attendees can hope to enjoy talks from members of the Irish Food Writers' Guild – one of the foremost authorities on food in Ireland and friends of Slow Food Dublin.

The decommissioned church in Sophia will play host to the city market displaying the wares of local food producers and presenting delicious cooking demos. 

The café on site will also serve food to attendees manned by esteemed guest chefs who will be preparing dishes using rescued food waste from charity, Food Cloud.

In holding this festival, Slow Food Dublin also aims to support and highlight Dublin 8 community projects like Sophia’s - a charity offering residential care for homeless people in Dublin.

Slow Food Dublin is a member of Slow Food Ireland and one of 1,300 local chapters of Slow Food internationally holding monthly events around the city including workshops, dinners, tastings, demos and talks collaborating regularly with other organisations, such as the Irish Food Writers' Guild, Euro-Toques Ireland, GIY, Food Cloud, and other chapters.
